The Gallura not only is a region of beaches and Jet-set, but also a calm hinterland, lost in a lush vegetation. Besides, numerous Corsican set up there, attracted by the beauty of the landscapes and the fertility of the soil, to plant vineyards, which produce the famous Vermentino of Gallura. Tempio Pausania, which is characterized by its granite buildings, was until the second half of the XVIIIth century the capital of the region, more important than Olbia and his port. Near Tempio, the Limbara hills offer good possibilities of trekking and hiking, and as the city is situated at a crossroad, it becomes an ideal point of departure. Indeed, it is situated at 43 kms from Olbia and at 35 from the North Coast (Badesi). Besides, at about 20kms towards the east, Tempio is surrounded by Luogosanto, famous for its Nostra Signora di Luogosanto Basilica, by Sant'antonio di Gallura, by Telti and its last century Church, and by Monti, a little more towards the south. At last, Buddosò, a half point between Tempio Pausania and Nuoro, at about 45kms from Olbia, is famous for its production of granite and cork. Each year, the city organizes an international exhibition of sculptures, that are then exposed in the local museum, which contains cork and wooden sculptures on a one hand and on the other hand, granite sculptures.
